Samsung’s flagship phone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, boasts a remarkable zooming capability with its four-camera setup, but some users have discovered a flaw in the device’s camera performance.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra features a 200MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens, a 10MP 3x optical zoom camera, and a 50MP 5x optical zoom periscope camera. The device also supports 2x and 10x optical zoom levels, which are supposed to deliver high-quality images.
However, an Indian user, @smasithick, noticed that the camera switching between different zoom levels was not seamless. In a video he shared online, the zoom transition from 2x to 3x to 5x appeared choppy and abrupt. He also compared his device with a Galaxy S24 Ultra model at a Samsung showroom, and found that the latter had a smooth zooming experience.
Anybody is facing image shift issue while zooming from 1x to 5x in #GalaxyS24Ultra?
Portraits from this device is also grainy.

Moreover, @smasithick reported that the portrait mode of his device produced grainy images, and the 5x and 10x zoom images lacked vibrancy and detail.
He took his device to a Samsung service center, where he was initially told that there was no problem with his phone. However, Samsung India later admitted that many of the first-batch Galaxy S24 Ultra units had a camera hardware issue, and offered him a replacement unit.
The camera issue was not limited to India, as similar complaints were reported by users in Thailand and Spain. It is shocking that Samsung knowingly sold defective units of its flagship phone, which costs around Rs. 1.2 lakh in India.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is supposed to be Samsung’s comeback phone, after the Galaxy S23 Ultra failed to impress the critics and the consumers. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has received rave reviews for its design, display, battery, and performance, and is expected to be one of the best phones of 2024.
Samsung would not want to tarnish its reputation and lose its market share by having such issues with its premium phone. The company has recently announced a software update for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which claims to improve the camera stability and quality. It remains to be seen whether this update will fix the camera issue for all the affected users.
