Samsung’s first Unpacked event of 2024 is expected to happen on January 17th, according to multiple sources. This is a big deal for mobile enthusiasts, as this is the occasion where Samsung will unveil its latest Galaxy S flagship devices.
The Korean giant has been advancing its schedule compared to previous years, as the first Unpacked event of 2023 took place on February 1st. By starting the process earlier, Samsung is rumored to launch the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra on January 30th next year, instead of the February 17th launch date this year for the Galaxy S23 series. This will give the Galaxy S24 devices two extra weeks to compete with the newest iPhone and Pixel models, compared to the time that the Galaxy S23 devices had earlier this year.
It is speculated that media invitations for the first Unpacked event of 2024 will be sent out starting on January 2nd. A mysterious leaker with the user name @MysteryLupin claims that the event will take place in San Jose, California, and will start at 10 am PST (which is 1 pm EST). As usual, the focus has been on the new Ultra model, but this year the Galaxy S24+ will also get some upgrades, such as a bigger display, a bigger battery, and more RAM. Hall of Fame leaker Evan Blass recently leaked an official Galaxy S24 spec sheet, but that was not the only leak that happened. This morning, Walmart made a huge blunder by accidentally posting online its listing for the Galaxy S24+ 17 days too early. The retailer quickly took it down, but not before some people captured screenshots of the listing and shared them online.

One of the most interesting aspects of the Galaxy S24 series is the rumored AI features that it will offer. The flagship devices might feature AI processing for videos, similar to the Pixel 8 Pro’s Video Boost. This will enhance the video quality in low-light conditions, reduce the noise and graininess in some videos, and improve the stability and exposure.
Other features will reportedly allow users to remove unwanted objects from videos, and enlarge the borders of new and old photos. Another cool AI feature will supposedly extract important information from a phone call and create an action list based on the tasks discussed on the call. These tasks will be added to a calendar app or a “to-do” list. Live Translate will enable two people who speak different languages to have a conversation over the phone.
The invitations for the January 17th Unpacked event should be arriving soon, and the tweet from @MysteryLupin indicates that Samsung will heavily advertise the new AI features for its new flagship devices.
