Google Wallet for Wear OS has recently rolled out a new feature that allows users to store and access their airline boarding passes on their smartwatches. This feature was added after the previous update that enabled users to store and use their loyalty cards on their Wear OS devices.
According to 9to5Google, users who have a Wear OS 3+ device will see a notification from the Google Wallet app on their smartwatch when they have a boarding pass for a flight to any airport that supports QR code scanning. Users can tap on the notification to “View pass” and show the QR code to the gate agent for a hassle-free boarding experience.
This feature is a welcome addition to the Google Wallet for Wear OS app, which aims to provide users with a convenient way to store and access various types of passes on their smartwatches. The app already supports loyalty cards for various membership programs and other kinds of passes, but it does not support COVID cards, health insurance cards, or private passes.
The feature is reportedly available for some users who have the Pixel Watch 2, but not for those who have the original Pixel Watch. The update seems to be server-side, so it may take some time to reach all users. However, there is no indication that the feature is exclusive to the Pixel Watch 2, so users who have the original Pixel Watch should expect to receive it soon.
The Google Wallet support page also provides information on how to find and manage your passes on your smartwatch’s Wallet app, as well as how to troubleshoot any issues that may arise. The support page states that passes are synced across all of your devices that are signed in with the same Google account, but your watch must have Wear OS 3.5 or higher and the Google Wallet app on the watch must have version 23.46.x or higher. The support page also clarifies that Fitbit devices are not compatible with the app.
