Samsung has been busy updating its Galaxy devices to the latest Android 14 version, but not all users have received the update yet. One of the devices that lagged behind was the Galaxy A13, a low-cost phone that was launched in late 2022.
The Galaxy A13 finally got the Android 14 update in mid-January, but only in some regions. Users in the United States had to wait until February to get the update, and even then, only the carrier-locked models were eligible. This means that users who bought the phone unlocked from Samsung or other retailers are still waiting for the update.
This is an unusual situation, as unlocked phones usually get updates faster than carrier-locked ones, since they don’t have to go through carrier approval. However, in this case, it seems that the network operators have more influence over Samsung’s update schedule than the users.
According to SamMobile, the update for the carrier-locked Galaxy A13 has the firmware version A135USQU7DXA2 and comes with the December 2023 security patch. This is not the most recent security patch, but it is still better than having an outdated one.
If you have a carrier-locked Galaxy A13, you can check for the update by going to Settings / Software update / Download and install. If you have an unlocked Galaxy A13, you will have to wait a bit longer, but hopefully not too much. The update should bring you many new features and improvements, such as the redesigned user interface, the enhanced privacy settings, the improved battery life, and more.
