Samsung is gearing up to launch its next-generation foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, at a special event in Paris on July 10, 2024. The event, dubbed Unpacked, will take place just two weeks before the start of the Olympic Games in the French capital, where Samsung is the official sponsor of wireless communications equipment.
The Korean tech giant has reportedly chosen Paris as the venue for its foldable launch to showcase its theme of “Open always wins” and boost its presence in the European market. Samsung is also hoping to leverage the global attention that the Olympics will bring to its foldable devices, which are expected to feature improved design, performance, and durability.
According to sources cited by The Bell, Samsung has advanced its Unpacked event by about two weeks compared to last year, when it announced the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 on July 26 and released them on August 11. The reason for this is to align the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with the opening of the Olympics on July 26, which is also a Friday. Samsung typically follows a Wednesday-Friday schedule for its announcements and launches.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are rumored to sport larger and brighter displays, faster processors, better cameras, and more battery life than their predecessors. They are also expected to support the S Pen stylus, which was previously exclusive to the Galaxy Note series. Samsung may also introduce a new color option for its foldables, inspired by the Olympic rings.
Samsung’s foldable lineup may also include a cheaper variant, the Galaxy Z Fold FE, which stands for Fan Edition. However, this device is likely to be launched later in the year, possibly in Q4, as Samsung usually does with its Fan Edition models.
Samsung’s Unpacked event in Paris will be streamed live on its website and social media channels, as well as on the official Olympic website and app. Samsung fans and Olympic enthusiasts can tune in to watch the unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, as well as the participation of the 25 athletes from Team Samsung at the Olympic Games.
