Samsung Galaxy S24 Series, samsung the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer by volume, had a disappointing year in 2023, losing its lead to Apple for the first time ever in annual sales. The Korean giant shipped nearly 230 million units globally, but that was a 13.6 percent drop from 2022, while Apple increased its market share and revenue with its iPhone 14 and 13 models. One of the main factors behind Samsung’s decline was the lackluster performance of its flagship Galaxy S23 series, which failed to impress consumers and critics alike.
The Galaxy S23 lineup, which consisted of the S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra, was supposed to be Samsung’s answer to Apple’s premium offerings, but it ended up being overshadowed by not only the iPhone 14 and 13, but also by Samsung’s own mid-range and low-end devices, such as the Galaxy A14 and A54. The S23 series ranked only eighth among the best-selling smartphones in the second quarter of 2023, a dismal result for a product that was supposed to showcase Samsung’s technological prowess and innovation.

Samsung is well aware of its shortcomings, and it has high hopes for its next-generation Galaxy S24 series, which was unveiled on January 19, 2024. The S24 series, which includes the S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra, boasts of several improvements and features over its predecessors, such as a faster and more efficient processor, a larger and brighter display, a more versatile and powerful camera system, and a smarter and more intuitive artificial intelligence assistant. Samsung claims that the S24 series is the most advanced and user-friendly smartphone ever made, and it seems that the consumers are buying into that hype.
In its home country of South Korea, the Galaxy S24 series has broken all previous records for pre-orders, with 1.21 million units reserved in just seven days, from January 19 to 25. That’s a significant increase from the 1.09 million units that the Galaxy S23 series garnered in the same period last year, and it also surpasses the 1.38 million units that the Galaxy Note 10 series achieved in 11 days in August 2019, which was Samsung’s best-selling smartphone family in South Korea until now. The Galaxy S24 series has thus become the most popular smartphone lineup in the history of the Korean market, at least in terms of initial demand.
But Samsung is not only interested in dominating its domestic market, it also wants to regain its global leadership and challenge Apple in other key regions, such as India. India is the second-largest smartphone market in the world, and Samsung has a strong presence there, especially with its affordable and reliable Galaxy A series. However, the Galaxy S24 series is also making waves in India, with an unprecedented 250,000 pre-orders in just three days, from January 19 to 21. That’s more than what the Galaxy S23 series managed to achieve in three weeks last year, and it’s also a new record for Samsung in India.
These impressive numbers indicate that the Galaxy S24 series is off to a great start, and they also give Samsung a lot of confidence and optimism for the future. Samsung hopes that the Galaxy S24 series will not only boost its sales and profits, but also enhance its brand image and reputation, and help it reclaim its crown as the world’s top smartphone vendor by the end of 2024.
